Job summary

AAAS is seeking a Part-Time Journalist Support Correspondent to join SciLine. This remote, on-call role supports journalist inquiries, coordinates with scientists, and logs data in Salesforce. Hours up to 17 per week, with flexibility for schedules and freelance opportunities.

The ideal candidate has journalism experience, strong writing and decision-making skills, and a demonstrated interest in science. You’ll report to SciLine’s senior outreach manager and may work across different shifts.

Qualifications

• Some experience in journalism or media relations, or familiarity with the lexicon and norms of journalism.
• Ability to communicate quickly, succinctly, and clearly.
• Effective decision making, especially on tight timelines.
• Experience with, or enthusiasm about science is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitor for and rapidly respond to journalist inquiries during duty hours via SciLine’s expert matching service.
• Coordinate with scientist-facing team members to follow up on inquiries.
• Enter data relevant to journalist inquiries into Salesforce.
• Communicate with SciLine’s inbox team to ensure smooth operation across shifts.
• Raise questions about irregular or challenging journalist correspondence for the team.
