SME Careers is seeking a Java Quality Assurance Lead (QAL) for a remote, hourly contractor role. You will oversee quality and trainer performance across Java AI training projects, reviewing AI-generated Java code and ensuring adherence to client rubrics.

Strong Java expertise and clear English communication are essential. You will monitor quality, provide precise feedback, and coordinate with remote teams to maintain high standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent professional software engineering experience.
• Strong grasp of English to follow guidelines and provide clear feedback.
• 3+ years of professional experience in Java development, backend engineering or software QA.
• Strong understanding of Java fundamentals: OOP, collections, streams, concurrency, JVM behavior, memory management, modules, and modern features.
• Ability to evaluate Java content against rubrics and identify issues such as non-compilable code or unsafe concurrency.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot, Maven, Gradle, JUnit, Mockito, Hibernate/JPA, REST APIs, Docker, GitHub, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Quality monitoring: Spot-check Java items, provide feedback, escalate issues.
• Code review: Evaluate AI-generated Java code and backend snippets.
• Trainer/QA communication: Update contributors via Discord on guidelines and standards.
• Question handling: Respond to Java syntax, OOP design, collections, streams, and rubric questions.
• Trainer/QA activation management: DM inactive contributors and track follow-ups.
• Documentation: Create and maintain Java style guides, trackers, FAQs, onboarding materials.
• Onboarding and training: Run onboarding/training calls for Java contributors.
• Risk and security review: Flag insecure or non-production-ready Java recommendations.
• Process improvement: Identify recurring quality gaps and improve QA workflows.
