Job summary

Embedded Shishya is seeking a Mid-Level Java Developer for a fully remote role focused on building Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs for federal agencies. You will design, develop, and maintain backend services, databases, and CI/CD pipelines in a collaborative Agile environment.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of Java experience, strong Spring Boot skills, PostgreSQL knowledge, and hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or related field.
• 3–5 years of professional Java development experience including backend services and API development.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring Web, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security.
• Experience with Java 17+ features and modern Java 21+ capabilities.
• Designing and developing RESTful APIs with versioning, error handling, and HTTP best practices.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and database schema design, indexing, performance optimization.
• Hands-on Docker experience for containerized apps; Kubernetes familiarity for deployments.
• JUnit and Mockito for unit/integration tests; test-driven development mindset.
• Experience with API testing/validation tools like Postman; OpenAPI/Swagger experience.
• CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions; familiarity with DevOps practices.
• Agile/Scrum methodologies; teamwork and collaboration across cross-functional teams.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust clearance.
• Healthcare or federal domain experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Java 21+ and Spring Boot.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and migrations for performance.
• Implement caching, session management, and messaging with Redis where needed.
• Containerize applications with Docker and deploy to Kubernetes clusters using Skaffold/other tools.
• Write unit/integration tests with JUnit/Mockito and maintain test coverage.
• Create and maintain API documentation and test suites with Postman and OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions; participate in Agile ceremonies.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Perform code reviews and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks to improve observability and reliability.
• Adhere to secure software development practices (OAuth2, JWT) and federal data security standards.
• Maintain technical documentation for APIs, services, and development processes.
