Job summary

Socket.dev is hiring a Mid-Level Java Developer to join our remote cloud-native engineering team. You will design, develop, and maintain Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs for federal-grade applications with a focus on scalability and security.

You will work within an Agile team to deliver high-quality software, improve CI/CD processes, and collaborate with architects and product managers. A strong Java foundation and experience with Kubernetes is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of Java application development experience.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot and Spring components.
• Knowledge of Java 17+ features and modern Java 21+ capabilities.
• RESTful API design, versioning, error handling, and HTTP best practices.
• Experience with Postman and automated API testing.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience.
• Docker and containerized apps experience.
• Kubernetes concepts and deployments experience.
• JUnit/Mockito testing experience.
• OOP principles and clean-code practices.
• Git and modern workflows (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket).
• Experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Agile Scrum or Kanban experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Develop and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries for performance.
• Implement caching and session management with Redis where relevant.
• Containerize apps with Docker and deploy to Kubernetes clusters.
• Write unit and integration tests with JUnit and Mockito.
• Create and maintain API documentation and test suites.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain coding standards.
• Address performance bottlenecks and improve observability.
