Job summary

Top Hat Engineering is seeking a hands-on Director of IT to lead day-to-day technology operations, oversee cloud and corporate IT infrastructure, and ensure engineering teams have the tools and systems they need to succeed.

This remote role includes occasional travel to customer sites for deployments and support. You will mentor the IT team, align the IT roadmap with business goals, and drive automation and reliability across the tech stack.

Qualifications

• 15+ years IT experience with at least 5 years leading an IT team.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and cloud operations.
• Experience administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID, identity management, SSO, and MFA.
• Strong Linux administration skills, particularly with RHEL/Ubuntu.
• Experience provisioning, securing, deploying, and troubleshooting servers in on-premises or customer-managed environments.
• Experience managing Windows Server, desktop operating systems, networking, and endpoint infrastructure.
• Knowledge of security best practices, patch management, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to customer sites.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing 40+ pounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team, managing priorities and service delivery.
• Partner with CIO and leadership to establish the IT roadmap, budget, standards, and priorities.
• Manage IT vendors, hardware procurement, software licensing, and service contracts.
• Establish and maintain IT policies, documentation, asset inventories, and SOPs.
• Oversee AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, networking, storage) and Azure services.
• Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID, identity management, and M365 security.
• Provision and maintain Linux servers (RHEL/Ubuntu) in AWS and customer sites.
• Automate routine tasks using Ansible, Terraform, Bash, PowerShell.
• Lead security, backups, DR, and incident response; maintain network security.
• Provide high-level escalation support and coordinate deployments with customer IT teams.
