Job summary

Unison is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter (Investment Underwriter) to evaluate risk and soundness of residential real estate investments within the Operations team. You will perform due diligence across valuation, credit, and income analysis, ensuring alignment with underwriting standards.

As an advanced user of Unison’s underwriting tools, you will contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and mentoring peers while maintaining strong risk controls in a remote US setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, real estate or equivalent
• 2+ years in residential mortgage, real estate, or investment underwriting
• Strong understanding of property valuation, credit analysis, and income underwriting
• Experience with underwriting escalations and thorough documentation
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative team player

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive underwriting reviews of residential real estate investments
• Assess appraisals to ensure compliance with underwriting standards
• Review home inspection reports and document risk factors
• Perform income underwriting and calculate qualifying income
• Serve as escalation point for complex transactions
• Perform quality control reviews and internal audits
• Provide feedback to improve underwriting systems and tooling
• Collaborate with Product, Technology, and Operations on automation initiatives
• Stay informed on PropTech and FinTech trends to improve efficiency
• Mentor peers and promote underwriting best practices
