Job summary

Department of Buildings in New York City seeks an Associate Investigator to support enforcement initiatives. You will prepare referrals, conduct investigations, gather intelligence, and manage a sizable caseload while interviewing witnesses and writing detailed reports.

The role allows up to two remote workdays per week under the pilot program; residency and civil service rules apply. A strong writing ability and teamwork are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • This role requires a four-year high school diploma with five years of investigative experience, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Alternative qualifications include an associate degree with four years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with two years.
  • An education/experience mix equivalent to the above is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare referrals and executive summaries for enforcement actions.
  • Conduct research to support enforcement initiatives and investigations.
  • Gather, analyze, and develop intelligence.
  • Manage a caseload of enforcement initiatives and case leads.
  • Conduct interviews and write lengthy narrative reports.
  • Use databases and web-based tools to verify information and locate records.
  • Review investigative reports and orders; interpret rules and policies.
  • Evaluate data for case lead development; testify at hearings or trials.
  • Coordinate operations and field work.
