Job summary

Erie Insurance is seeking a litigation claims professional for a remote position serving western New York. The role requires handling investigations, selecting defense counsel, managing litigation costs, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring compliance with guidelines.

The candidate should have extensive litigation experience, appropriate licenses, and a strong knowledge of claims handling and tort law. Travel to service the NY territory is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience handling litigation claims or legal experience, or equivalent, required.
• Associate degree or paralegal certification and eight years of experience handling litigation claims or legal experience, required.
• High school diploma or GED and ten years of experience handling litigation claims or legal experience, required.
• Associate in Claims (AIC) or Senior Claims Law Associate (SCLA) designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducts investigations, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage, liability, and resolution strategies.
• Selects, engages, and collaborates with defense counsel in the handling of lawsuits.
• Manages litigation expenses and ensures that defense counsel adheres to ERIE's billing guidelines.
• Complies with and directs defense counsels' utilization of Outside Counsel Guidelines.
• Trains and mentors.
• Documents claim files.
