AMN Healthcare is seeking a Remote Facility Inpatient Coder to accurately code inpatient services, procedures and diagnoses from medical records, supporting reimbursement and compliance. The role requires extensive ICD-10-CM/PCS expertise and adherence to coding guidelines in a remote environment.

Ideal candidates have a minimum of three years in medical coding, with RHIA/RHIT/CCS or CIC credentials, and are proficient in DRG accuracy, documentation improvement, and productivity targets.

Job Details

POSITION: Remote Facility Inpatient Coder

DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management

LOCATION: Remote

JOB SUMMARY: Under indirect supervision, is responsible for accurate coding of all inpatient and services, procedures, diagnoses and conditions, working from the appropriate documentation in the medical record at an Academic Trauma 1 Health System. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD-10-CM/PCS, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Classification systems include ICD-10-CM, CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) as well as other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category and facility Reimbursement guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Must possess a thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding principles and applications as they relate to acute care hospital coding and grouping
• Thorough knowledge of Official Coding Guidelines and payer specific requirements
• When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seeks to attain proper documentation in a timely manner according to facility standards.
• Maintain 95% DRG and overall accuracy rate
• Maintain average productivity standards.
• Works the review queue on a daily basis to ensure all charts that are placed in the review queue are worked and any corrections are communicated to the facility if necessary.
• The coder is responsible for coding or pending every chart placed in their queue.

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Requires one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT or CCS) AAPC (CIC)
• Must be proficient with Facilities Coding Standards.
• Minimum of three (3) years' experience in medical coding.
• Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS.
