Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design seeks an experienced Hydro Mechanical Engineering Specialist to join our Water and Hydropower team in a remote-capable role. You will lead mechanical balance-of-plant system design, equipment upgrades at hydropower facilities, and feasibility studies for pumped storage projects across the U.S.

You will produce P&IDs, perform design calculations, and manage client communications while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with a multi-discipline team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• 8+ years of hydropower experience.
• PE (Professional Engineer) license is required.
• Willingness to travel and adjust schedules as needed.
• Ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
• Experience in a client-facing role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Produce mechanical system designs including P&IDs, equipment sizing, detailed design, and system calculations.
• Prepare equipment and design specifications.
• Prepare, review, and PE stamp calculations, drawings, reports, etc., related to mechanical systems.
• Independent Engineering reports associated with Hydro Tax incentives.
• Perform equipment and contractor bid evaluations.
• Inspect, assess conditions of existing hydropower and dam projects.
• Provide field support during installation, testing, and start-up.
• Perform feasibility studies and conceptual design evaluations.
• Support pumped storage concept studies and pre-feasibility work.
• Prepare project engineering cost estimates.
• Assist with client presentations and proposals.
• Provide operations & maintenance and asset management recommendations.
• Serve as a client manager in a seller-doer environment.
