Job summary

Michigan State University is seeking an HR BI Analyst to advance reporting and analytics for HR, partnering with stakeholders to translate requirements into functional specs and ensuring data quality across SAP, Cognos, and SQL environments.

The role supports dashboards, ad hoc reporting, and documentation while contributing to the transition to SAP-based reporting and modern BI capabilities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of a four-year degree in a related field with 1–3 years of experience analyzing business processes or data.
• Experience validating data, performing testing, and coordinating implementation of solutions.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for HR reporting and analytics solutions.
• Translate business questions into functional specifications and maintain FDS for report/dashboard development.
• Develop and execute test plans, test scenarios, and validation activities for accuracy and alignment with requirements.
• Support reports, dashboards, and analytics across SAP, Cognos, QM4, and SQL-based environments.
• Contribute to design/enhancement of dashboards and data visualizations to convey HR trends and KPIs.
• Identify and coordinate resolution of reporting defects with technical teams using Jira.
• Serve as primary resource for reporting questions, service requests, and end-user support.
• Assist with reporting administration including security, access, and scheduling.
• Develop user guides and training materials to improve adoption and effectiveness.
• Support ad hoc reporting requests to inform operations and strategy.
• Support SAP-based reporting transition and adoption of new tools.
