Job summary

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking a GIS Architect to lead the agency’s inaugural enterprise geospatial strategy in Chicago, IL. The role involves guiding architecture, governance, standards, and platform roadmaps while collaborating with stakeholders across CMAP.

Preference will be given to candidates residing in Chicagoland or willing to relocate, with relocation assistance available for some candidates. The position allows up to 100% remote work.

Qualifications

• At least six years of professional experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in geography, urban planning, computer science, information systems or related field
• GISP certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead CMAP’s enterprise GIS architecture, governance model, standards, platform roadmap, and authoritative regional datasets.
• Guide governance and architecture discussions; communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Build consensus across internal and external stakeholders on standards, platform priorities, and shared spatial definitions.
• Manage modernization initiatives, platform upgrades, and lifecycle processes for enterprise GIS capabilities.
