Job summary

VaVa Virtual Assistants is seeking an experienced Web Developer to join as an independent contractor. You will manage multiple client websites, primarily in WordPress, with duties spanning front-end and back-end development, e-commerce integrations, site migrations, and security hardening.

You’ll work remotely from the U.S., collaborating with a distributed team on varied projects, from quick maintenance to full builds and migrations. A strong portfolio and freelance experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript with PHP backend experience.
• Strong WordPress skills incl. theme customization, plugins, migrations.
• Experience with WooCommerce, Shopify, ThriveCart for e-commerce sites.
• Knowledge of SEO and AEO, Google Analytics/Tag Manager.
• Familiarity with automation tools (Zapier/Make/n8n) and email platforms (ConvertKit/Klaviyo).
• AI literacy; able to use Claude/ChatGPT to streamline work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain client websites, primarily WordPress.
• Build front-end interfaces aligned with client branding using HTML/CSS/JS.
• Develop and maintain back-end PHP functionality and troubleshoot issues.
• Lead e-commerce site builds and ongoing maintenance on WooCommerce/Shopify/ThriveCart.
• Execute migrations, domain transfers, and hosting changes with minimal downtime.
• Implement website security best practices and perform routine maintenance.
• Create landing pages and set up automations and integrations (Zapier/Make/n8n, ConvertKit/Klaviyo).
• Monitor analytics, optimize for SEO/AEO, report on performance metrics.
• Collaborate with designers and other VaVa contractors; gather requirements and communicate timelines.
• Provide documentation of site structure, credentials, and technical decisions.
