Job summary

Environmental Defense Fund, Inc. is seeking an Institutional Partnerships Officer to manage a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects, focusing on five-to-seven-figure gifts. This role sits in EDF's Development Department and reports to a Senior Director of Institutional Partnerships.

Remote work with preference for DC or New York areas. You will develop cultivation plans, prepare compelling donor materials, and coordinate with program staff to secure transformative support for EDF's

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with at least six years of nonprofit fundraising success, preferably with foundation donors.
• Advanced degree or equivalent may substitute for up to two years of experience.
• Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Integrity, discretion, and donor interaction poise.
• Proficiency in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
• Strong planning, organization, and time management; multi-project handling.
• Ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
• Cultural competency and inclusivity with diverse colleagues.
• Experience with donor tracking software ( Salesforce preferred ).
• Nonprofit environment experience and travel 5-10%.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and grow relationships with prospective foundation donors.
• Develop donor cultivation plans aligned with EDF priorities.
• Prepare proposals, reports, and donor materials with program staff.
• Provide strategic talking points and briefing materials for donors.
• Attend meetings to deepen relationships with foundation reps.
• Maintain donor records and forecasts in Salesforce with cross-team collaboration.
• Understand EDF programs to communicate impact to donors.
• Coordinate with Global Development and leadership on fundraising strategies.
• Monitor engagement metrics and prioritize outreach.
• Contribute to achieving fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship goals.
