Job summary

Summit Federal Services, LLC (SFS) in Washington, DC, is seeking a Junior FOIA Specialist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. Telework is available; onsite work may be required, and applicants must reside within commuting distance of DC.

A Junior FOIA Contractor assists with initial reviews, finds records, drafts responses, and applies exemptions under supervision, helping keep FOIA tasks on schedule. Occasional on-site duties may be required and security clearance readiness is needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required.
• Minimum one (1) year of FOIA request processing experience within the last 24 months.
• Additional FOIA experience may substitute for formal FOIA training or certifications.
• Must be clearable up to Public Trust Clearance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, professional responses.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database tools.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial reviews of FOIA requests.
• Perform searches and gather relevant records.
• Draft response materials for FOIA submissions.
• Apply FOIA exemptions accurately and consistently.
• Research via internet and records tools to support FOIA search and review activities.
