Job summary

Prefect is seeking a Staff-level Data Platform Engineer to lead the end-to-end internal data platform modernization. You will own Snowflake architecture, dbt transformations, and Dagster orchestration, migrating and consolidating stacks.

The role involves defining requirements, roadmaps, and working with stakeholders across the organization. You’ll work in a remote-first environment with equity, generous benefits, and a public/open codebase mindset.

Qualifications

• Staff-level data platform experience with architectural impact across orgs.
• Proven production experience with dbt and a modern cloud warehouse.
• Experience with a modern orchestrator; Dagster a plus.
• Hands-on with managed ingestion and reverse ETL tooling.
• Self-driven and able to turn ambiguous business asks into scoped work.
• Comfortable working in an open source public codebase.

Responsibilities

• Own the internal data platform end to end: Snowflake architecture, sizing, and cost; dbt transformations; orchestration standards in Dagster
• Own ingestion tooling and reverse ETL: Fivetran, Sling, dlt, AWS DMS; reverse ETL with Hightouch and Census
• Own warehouse access controls and security
• Design the system to reduce cross-team blockers and data debt
• Ensure platform reliability: Dagster alerts, data quality, and cost
• Address deferred data backlog and enablement
• Collaborate with engineering on SLA-carrying pipelines (billing, consumption pricing)
• Operate in Dagster daily and feed learnings to product team
