Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group in Massachusetts is seeking a New Business Underwriter to drive growth by underwriting new business for Small Commercial lines and by building strong agency relationships with agents and internal partners. This is a full-time exempt role with hybrid or fully remote arrangements.

In this role you will triage new business, assess submissions, guide UTs, gather underwriting information, analyze reports, prepare quotes, and ensure proper documentation and workflow

Qualifications

• Strong underwriting skill and coverage knowledge; ability to make underwriting decisions on POS and CPP accounts up to $50,000 premium size.
• Underwriting systems knowledge to document and underwrite accounts within workflow expectations.
• Ability to manage workload to meet goals and service standards, while following workflow standards.
• Thorough understanding of Agent partners, including agency personnel and agency business plan with The Hanover across the Franchise.
• Sales orientation; able to solicit, qualify, negotiate and close accounts with Agents.
• Excellent time management skills, responsiveness and collaboration with Agents, UTs, SCSMs, renewal UWs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily triage of new business with UT, including POS business.
• Assess submissions, categorize, and direct UT on next steps based on assessment.
• Provide direction to UT to prepare a new business account including declines and communications with Agents.
• Collect additional information needed for underwriting analysis.
• Interact with the agency to gather information in an organized manner.
• Order and analyze necessary reports for underwriting analysis.
• Prepare and deliver quote proposals to agents and follow up on quotes.
• Document underwriting decisions within Underwriting systems.
• Ensure submissions reach decline or quoting status.
• Determine pricing and coverage advantages to highlight in quotes and identify cross-sell opportunities.
