Job summary

Toric Engineering is seeking a Field Service Engineer to act as the primary company representative across Northeastern Illinois. The role supports automation and controls in water and wastewater and requires remote work from a home office with about 30% travel to sites in Illinois; occasional trips to Indianapolis.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or comparable experience.
• 5+ years of experience in controls, automation, SCADA, field service, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in at least one: AutoCAD Electrical & panel documentation, PLC programming and field troubleshooting, SCADA development/administration
• Strong understanding of control panels, instrumentation, VFDs, and communication systems.
• Ability to work independently in remote environments with limited oversight.
• Strong problem-solving skills under time-sensitive or operational constraints.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within 2–3 hours of home.

Responsibilities

• Field troubleshooting, system startups, and customer support.
• Provide and maintain documentation after service visits.
• Collaborate with municipal operators and engineering teams to ensure project success.
• Travel 2–3 hours radius of home; support Illinois and occasional Indiana trips.
• Work remotely from home with about 30% travel to customer sites.
• Assist with panel verification, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Record design corrections or redlines discovered during commissioning.
