Job summary

Designed Conveyor Systems (DCS) is seeking a Controls Commissioning Engineer to lead on-site commissioning of complex material handling and warehouse automation systems. The role partners with project teams and field technicians to deliver fully functional systems at customer sites.

The ideal candidate has a background in electrical/controls engineering, 1+ years in commissioning industrial automation, and hands-on experience with PLCs, sensors, and industrial networks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent hands-on experience in automation
• 1+ years commissioning industrial automation, controls, or material handling systems
• Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens
• Experience with sensors, encoders, actuators, and safety devices
• Understanding of Ethernet/IP and other industrial protocols
• Ability to read electrical schematics, control panel drawings, and wiring diagrams
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to meet project deadlines
• Willingness to travel up to 75% to customer sites

Responsibilities

• Execute on-site commissioning of automated material handling systems (conveyors, sorters, merges)
• Perform I/O checkout, safety checks, device validation, and wiring verification
• Configure, test, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial networks
• Validate system functionality against design specs and requirements
• Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues and optimize performance
• Support system integration testing, stress testing, and throughput validation
• Document commissioning results, changes, punch lists, and test reports
• Train customer operations and maintenance teams on system functionality
• Provide on-site support during go-live and commissioning phases
