Job summary

Heritage Insurance is seeking an experienced Field Adjuster to support the Long Island and New York City territory. This remote, territory-based role involves conducting on-site inspections, estimating losses, and managing end-to-end settlement processes for first-party property claims.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of property claims experience, NY adjuster licensing, and strong communication skills to coordinate with policyholders and professionals.

Qualifications

• New York adjuster licensure must be obtained and maintained.
• Minimum 5 years of property claims experience, including field adjusting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claims management systems.
• Ability to independently investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve property claims.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities.
• A customer-first mindset with professional demeanor under pressure.
• Ability to work independently with a remote, mobile schedule.
• Ability to climb, kneel, crawl, and lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
• Willingness to travel extensively within Long Island/NYC territory.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough on-site property inspections, including scoping, photography, documentation, and estimates.
• Investigate and evaluate first-party property claims to determine coverage, damages, and claim exposure.
• Review policies, leases, contracts, by-laws, and other documentation for claim validity and coverage.
• Communicate professionally, clearly, and empathetically with policyholders, public adjusters, contractors, attorneys, vendors, and internal partners.
• Use industry-standard claims estimating tools and technology to prepare, review, and validate estimates.
• Partner with internal specialists, including Subrogation and Fire/Fraud Investigations, when appropriate.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely claim documentation and activity notes.
• Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves, updating them as needed.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and professional claim correspondence (e.g., ROR and denials).
• Negotiate settlements within authority levels; escalate complex matters as needed.
• Represent Heritage in legal and ADR proceedings, including depositions and EUOs.
• Stay informed about construction practices, repair methodologies, and local costs.
• Respond promptly to questions from policyholders, customers, and internal partners.
• Identify and report safety, regulatory, or compliance concerns.
• Travel throughout the assigned territory with occasional travel outside the region.
• Participate in catastrophe (CAT) and surge operations; extended hours may be required.
• Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
