Job summary

Commercial Programming Systems, Inc. (CPS) is seeking a Fiber Optic Test Engineer Lead to head fiber testing and cable-plant certification for large-scale data center projects across nationwide sites.

This hands-on role requires strong Tier 1 optical loss testing experience, fiber troubleshooting, and leadership of testing crews. The role involves configuring OLTS testing platforms, testing SM/MM fiber configurations, and producing traceable certification reports.

Qualifications

• Proven Tier 1 fiber loss testing experience.
• Experience with OLTS/fiber certification platforms.
• Ability to identify testing equipment/model used and explain the workflow.
• Fiber cable-plant certification experience in SM/MM and LC/MPO/MTP environments.
• Experience troubleshooting failed tests and documenting retests.
• Experience generating and managing traceable certification reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead Tier 1 optical loss testing and cable-plant certification of installed fiber.
• Configure OLTS or equivalent testing platforms before production testing.
• Test single-mode and multimode fiber (LC, MPO/MTP, etc.).
• Set up or verify fiber type, wavelengths, test limits, link IDs, reference configurations, and test-reference cords.
• Perform fiber inspection and cleaning prior to testing.
• Measure and validate insertion loss, length, polarity and pass/fail results.
• Troubleshoot failed loss tests and coordinate retesting for acceptance.
• Use OTDR for troubleshooting and fault location.
• Maintain traceable test results and documentation.
• Prepare, review, and support delivery of final test reports and customer closeout packages.
• Lead testing technicians/crews and manage testing priorities, production counts, failures, retests, and shift handoffs.
• Ensure links are not skipped, duplicated, or mislabeled.
• Follow safety requirements and site procedures.

Job Title: Fiber Optic Test Engineer – Lead

Location: DataCenter Project Sites across the nation

Travel: Up to 75% (3 weeks of travel and 1 week of work from home)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Test Engineer Lead t o lead fiber testing and cable-plant certification activities for large-scale data center infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on position requiring strong Tier 1 optical loss testing experience, fiber troubleshooting, certification reporting, and leadership of fiber testing crews.

Key Responsibilities

• Personally perform and lead Tier 1 optical loss testing and cable-plant certification of installed fiber.
• Configure and verify OLTS or equivalent light-source/power-meter testing platforms before production testing.
• Perform testing on single-mode and multimode fiber, including LC, MPO/MTP, and other fiber configurations.
• Set up or verify fiber type, wavelengths, test limits, link IDs, reference configurations, and test-reference cords.
• Perform fiber inspection and cleaning before testing as required.
• Measure and validate insertion loss/loss, length, polarity and pass/fail results as required by the project.
• Troubleshoot failed loss tests, coordinate corrective actions, and perform retesting through successful acceptance.
• Use OTDR when appropriate for troubleshooting and fault location.
• Maintain traceable test results, native test files, naming conventions, failure/retest status, and certification documentation.
• Prepare, review, and support delivery of final test reports and customer closeout packages.
• Lead testing technicians/crews and manage testing priorities, production counts, failures, retests, and shift handoffs.
• Ensure links are not skipped, duplicated, incorrectly referenced, or mislabeled.
• Follow project/customer specifications, safety requirements, PPE, laser/fiber safety, and site procedures.

Required Experience

• Strong hands-on experience performing Tier 1 fiber loss testing, not only OTDR testing.
• Experience with an OLTS/fiber certification platform or equivalent light-source and power-meter system.
• Ability to identify the exact testing equipment/model personally used and explain the testing workflow.
• Fiber cable-plant certification experience with SM/MM and LC/MPO/MTP environments.
• Experience troubleshooting failed tests and performing/documenting retests.
• Experience generating and managing traceable certification reports/test results.
• Previous experience leading fiber testers or testing crews in data center or large-scale infrastructure environments.
