Job summary

SMX is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to provide security engineering, compliance, and risk management for cloud environments aligned with NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, and DoD IL4–6. The role supports authorization, audit readiness, and continuous monitoring while improving efficiency through automation and GRC tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Five+ years of cybersecurity experience with federal cloud security.
• Experience developing authorization artifacts (SSPs, POA&Ms, SARs, policies).

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and maintain authorization documentation (SSPs, SAPs, SARs, POA&Ms).
• Advise on authorization strategies and audit readiness for FedRAMP/DoD environments.
• Support RMF, gap assessments, control validation, and remediation planning.
• Leverage automation and scripting to streamline compliance workflows.
• Collaborate with cloud engineering and DevOps to implement controls (AWS/Azure).
• Coordinate with 3PAOs, Authorizing Officials, and government stakeholders.
• Assist with continuous monitoring, evidence collection, and reporting.
