Job summary

UCLA seeks an Export Control Analyst within Research Policy & Compliance to support the development and administration of the university's export control program and related compliance activities.

Responsibilities include assisting with license determinations, deemed exports reviews, and safeguarding compliance with federal, state, UC and campus policies. The role requires discretion, strong communication, and independent work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills to ensure the effective exchange of ideas with a wide audience.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships across the campus and with the UC Office of the President.
• Ability to appropriately prioritize work in an environment of fluctuating workloads and changing priorities.
• Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on assignments to completion.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, web browsers, and electronic mail programs.
• Internal/external audit, research administration, and/or compliance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of current export control regulations is highly desired, but can be trained.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive, detailed analyses of complex regulations and to use good judgement in assessing situations and employing effective problem-solving techniques strongly desired.

Responsibilities

• The Export Control Analyst supports the development, implementation and administration of the UCLA export control compliance program and other general compliance activities.
• Works with the team and participates in license determinations on a variety of transactions, including deemed exports reviews for visa beneficiaries and visitors, shipments, travel, and financial transactions.
• Provides support to the campus community for complying with export control and sanctions regulations.
• Works independently with limited supervision, consulting with the supervisor on non-routine actions or exceptions to existing internal procedures.
