Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5–8 software engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills engineering team. The role emphasizes people leadership, delivery, and technical depth to guide design discussions, ensure quality, and align with product goals for a global API-driven platform.

You will plan work, remove blockers, coach engineers, and collaborate with Product, Customer Success, and vendors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience with 2+ years in management.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL and API design/management.
• Proven track record delivering on schedules with quality standards.
• Strong collaboration and communication with engineers and stakeholders.
• Experience onboarding and developing engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of engineers building Rails services and React frontends.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work; monitor progress against schedules.
• Troubleshoot blockers and coordinate handoffs across teams and vendors.
• Triage production issues; maintain coding and QA standards; ensure documentation.
