Job summary

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and grow a regional/global Python engineering team. You will drive technical leadership, mentor engineers, and partner with stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable solutions aligning with Ubuntu-based cloud and infrastructure efforts.

You will influence culture, practice modern agile development, contribute code, and travel up to 10% for events. The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and a strong engineering mindset.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lead and grow engineers and foster development.
• Knowledgeable and passionate about agile software development.
• Comfortable leading, coaching, and mentoring Python developers.
• Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
• Able to administer Linux servers, including storage and networking.
• Hands-on experience with software automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Python engineers working remotely in global locations.
• Hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
• Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing code yourself.
• Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
• Set and manage expectations with other engineering and operations teams.
• Coordinate with management and internal and external stakeholders or customers.
• Advocate for modern, agile software development practices.
• Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
• Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values.
• Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organisation.
