Job summary

Ad Ad Hoc United States seeks an Engineering Lead to join a modernization team delivering Java microservices for a federal program. You will write production code, drive API design, and set technical standards while remaining hands-on.

You will mentor engineers, participate in interviews, and collaborate with customer architects and stakeholders. This role blends leadership with daily coding, architecture thinking, and delivering reliable software for government services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 9+ years of software engineering experience.
• Hands-on in the last 12 months and continue daily in this role.
• 8+ years Java development with Java 17+.
• 5+ years Spring/Spring Boot; 5+ years REST API design.
• 5+ years with Oracle or a comparable relational DB (Hibernate/JPA).
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving engineering quality.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to explain decisions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; able to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, write, test, and ship production code in Java 17+ and Spring Boot in two‑week sprints.
• Own complex work end to end including API design and integration.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews and tests.
• Mentor engineers and support their growth and day‑to‑day needs.
• Serve as technical contact with customer architects and staff.
• Communicate risk and tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Contribute to design documentation and architecture discussions.
• Participate in candidate interviews and assessments.
• Support program delivery and technical proposals.
