Job summary

Harman in Carlsbad, CA is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and deliver consumer electronics software. You will work with an experienced team on embedded processors, Linux, RTOS, build systems, and networking technologies.

You will contribute across the full software lifecycle, participate in design reviews, and ensure robust, bug-free code while embracing Agile practices in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or equivalent technical degree.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with embedded systems.
• 3+ years experience with SVN, GIT or equivalent software version control.
• 3+ years using the C programming language.
• 3+ years using the C++11 or later programming language.
• 3+ years working in a Linux software development environment.
• 2+ years using scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python).
• 2+ years experience with Buildroot or Yocto or equivalent.
• 2+ years experience with embedded real-time operating systems.
• Experience with embedded development tools.
• Experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.
• Strong problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop efficient, bug free software.
• Follow an Agile/Scrum software development process for estimation, design, development, reviews, testing and defect fixing.
• Collaborate with SMEs to produce requirements and develop solutions.
• Assist in creating technical design documents for products.
• Participate in design sessions and code reviews to ensure alignment with requirements.
• Analyze existing software to debug and troubleshoot issues.
• Work with engineers to promote code and design reuse across projects.
• Identify and suggest software development process improvements.
• Assist in analyzing potential tools and commercial products.
