Job summary

FirstEnergy Service Co. is seeking a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer to lead the study and planning of transmission and subtransmission systems across FE's footprint.

You will supervise engineers, coordinate with PJM, NERC, and RFC, and develop capital budgets for reliability projects. Role requires strong analytical and communication skills, 5+ years in transmission planning, and a PE license or equivalent; ABET-ed BSEE is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (ABET) required.
• In lieu of a degree, Electronics Engineering Tech or Electrical Engineering and PE license required.
• Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
• Proficient in power system analysis software such as PSLF, PSS/E, TARA.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and leadership to engineers developing transmission projects, plans, and budgets.
• Ensure timely completion of bulk/area transmission studies and compliance with NERC, PJM, and FE criteria.
• Propose projects with justified costs to mitigate planning deficiencies; present to RF and PJM.
• Deliver management presentations to executive leadership as needed.
• Oversee impacts of new loads, generation, and merchant transmission connections.
• Support Operations Centers during severe weather or outages with rapid evaluations.
• Collaborate with industry groups (NERC, RFC, PJM) to meet FE obligations.
• Assist responses to state/federal information requests; provide regulatory testimony as needed.
• Contribute to submittals for compliance with planning activities.
• Review planning philosophy and related documents; ensure agency filings meet requirements.
• Travel within FE service territory and to industry events.
