Job summary

NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Staff Counsel in the General Counsel Division. The role is focused on enforcing New York City’s licensing and consumer protection laws, including investigations and litigation at OATH and state court.

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the Staff Counsel will initiate, investigate, and litigate cutting-edge cases, draft legal documents, and participate in settlement negotiations.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the New York State Bar.
• At least one year of U.S. legal experience after bar admission, or six months as Agency Attorney Intern.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and prosecute businesses engaging in illegal conduct, including online and web-based industries.
• Draft legal memoranda and correspondence to respondents, opposing counsel, and consumers.
• Conduct depositions and participate in settlement negotiations.
• Try cases in administrative tribunals and state courts for enforcement.
• Develop large-scale regulatory enforcement plans and oversee compliance projects.
• Review external-facing materials for outreach and trainings.
