Job summary

The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) seeks an experienced Staff Counsel in the General Counsel Division to enforce consumer protection and licensing laws, including litigation before OATH and state court.

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the staff counsel will conduct investigations, draft memoranda, negotiate settlements, handle depositions, and contribute to outreach materials while managing multiple complex cases.

Qualifications

• Admission to NY State Bar required.
• Minimum one year of legal experience after admission.
• Must remain in good standing with the NY Bar.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and prosecute unlawful conduct before OATH and state court.
• Develop investigation plans and oversee regulatory enforcement projects.
• Draft memoranda and settlement agreements for enforcement actions.
• Conduct depositions and witness interviews as needed.
• Review external materials for outreach and trainings.
• Manage multiple priority cases with tight deadlines.
