Job summary

Capital One seeks a Staff AI Engineer to shape the architecture and delivery of foundational AI systems. This remote-eligible role collaborates with engineers, researchers, PMs, and product leaders on AI-powered products and infrastructure.

You will guide complex systems from design through production, including foundation model training, LLM inference, agent workflows, guardrails, evaluation, and observability; establish enterprise-wide standards for AI architecture, deployment, and tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 8+ years in AI/ML; or a relevant master’s degree with 6+ years.
• At least eight years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java.
• Experience architecting and operating scalable AI systems in cloud or private-cloud environments.
• Expertise in LLM inference, vector databases, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, and enterprise standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and support AI software components and services meeting reliability and responsible AI requirements.
• Establish technical direction and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems.
• Define enterprise architecture standards for deployment, tooling, observability, governance, and evaluation.
• Lead integration of model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid/multi-model workloads; optimize performance.
