Job summary

Apex Class Action is hiring a Senior Manager, Payroll Tax & Settlement Disbursements in Irvine, CA to own tax calculations and reporting for large class action settlements. This hands-on role requires expertise in multi-state payroll tax, tax filings, and funding of settlement distributions.

The successful candidate will lead complex calculations, coordinate with data, disbursement, and legal teams, and may grow into managing the tax team. Remote candidates may be considered based on experience.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional payroll tax experience, with 10+ years strongly preferred.
• Extensive experience with multi-state payroll tax compliance.
• Strong knowledge of federal payroll taxation (FICA, Medicare, FUTA, withholding).
• Strong working knowledge of state withholding, unemployment insurance and other payroll tax requirements.
• Experience preparing, reviewing and reconciling Forms 941, 940, W-2, W-3, 1099s and related filings.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required, including large datasets and pivot tables.

Responsibilities

• Own and oversee the payroll tax component of class action settlement distributions from final calculation through tax reporting and reconciliation.
• Review settlement agreements and data to determine federal/state/local payroll tax treatment.
• Calculate employee payroll tax withholdings and employer-side payroll tax liabilities.
• Determine funding requirements and communicate them to attorneys and stakeholders.
• Prepare and oversee Forms 941, 940, W-2/W-3 and 1099 reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
• Mentor disbursement and tax teams as the department grows.
