Job summary

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead critical features across the software stack, spanning perception interfaces, compute hardware, simulation and flight software. You will help connect cameras, sensors, and heterogeneous compute platforms to deliver reliable, end-to-end space systems.

You will collaborate with perception, GNC, avionics and mission ops teams; remote-friendly with occasional travel for AI&T and mission support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field; equivalent practical experience considered.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering in complex production systems.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++, including multithreading and optimization.
• Experience designing reusable libraries, APIs, and platform services.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration and testing of features across the software stack.
• Build reusable C++/Python libraries, APIs, tools, and abstractions.
• Define interfaces between algorithmic and platform components in a large codebase.
• Develop multithreaded, low-latency software for constrained environments.
• Integrate cameras, sensors, and compute platforms into end-to-end systems.
• Develop software involving 3D geometry, camera models, and visualization.
• Establish automated testing, build infra, and developer workflows.
• Collaborate with perception, avionics, flight software, and mission ops teams.
• Support software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing and operations.
• Diagnose system-level issues and mentor other engineers.
