Job summary

MotherDuck is building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB to unify local development with cloud analytics. As a Backend Engineer on the Database team, you’ll work in C++ alongside the DuckDB codebase, driving embedded database performance and distributed execution while collaborating with DuckDB Labs.

Qualifications

Built and shipped complex backend systems.
Fluent in C++, Rust, or Java and close-to-metal programming.
Foundations in query engines, execution plans, and performance optimization.
Experience with cloud infrastructure and low-latency distributed systems.

Responsibilities

Own major projects in our dual execution stack for local and cloud DuckDB.
Help build a cloud platform that dynamically allocates resources for varying workloads.
Lead cross-functional work with frontend, platform, and infra teams to ensure a coherent user experience.
Advance embedded database performance and distributed execution within the DuckDB ecosystem.
Mentor teammates and share DuckDB expertise across the company.
