Job summary

TxDOT, based in Austin, TX, is hiring an Accounts Payable Specialist III to manage and optimize the organization’s accounts payable processes. The role requires coordinating with vendors and internal departments, auditing invoices, and ensuring compliance with state rules.

The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of accounting experience and may hold a bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, etc. highly preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and similar systems (PeopleSoft, OnBase, QuickBooks, Tableau).
• Ability to work remotely and follow safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Process and audit AP vouchers and invoices; authorize payments.
• Audit, reconcile, and report on AP procedures; train others.
• Examine accounting source documents for accuracy and compliance.
• Investigate and reconcile complex accounting discrepancies.
• Serve as liaison with banks, insurers, and other entities on accounting issues.
• Answer inquiries from vendors, contractors, and other personnel.
• Prepare and distribute AP management reports.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
