Job summary

The Heron Institute in South Carolina seeks a Permanent Elementary and Middle School Substitute Teacher (CASC). This exempt role supports virtual instruction for CASC students, travels for testing, and requires SC certification.

The position predominantly works from home with occasional in-person duties. Responsibilities include live teaching at least 15 hours weekly, asynchronous support, data-driven instruction, and collaboration with teachers, families, and Learning Coaches to ensure student

Qualifications

• Six months of student teaching experience.
• Valid South Carolina teaching certification.
• Pedagogical knowledge of content and ability to apply critical thinking.
• Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
• Access to reliable high-speed internet.
• Experience with online platforms such as Canvas or similar is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver online instruction for CASC students.
• Conduct live synchronous teaching – minimum 15 hours per week.
• Asynchronously support course objectives, plan objectives and use data to guide learning.
• Collaborate with teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction and data-driven decisions.
• Submit grades and maintain grade book, with reports on student progress.
