Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in the United States seeks an Electrical Engineer for the Electric Power Division to design, develop, and implement automation for generator control switchgear systems.

You will deliver solutions from concept through commissioning, working independently and with cross-functional teams. The role requires hands-on design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV paralleling controls, converting legacy PLCs, and developing PLC/HMI applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience with automation and controls, PLCs, HMIs, and system integration.
• Knowledge of power systems including switchgear, ATS, and generator systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope, and support proposal development with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessment and support field performance of assigned projects.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and system operation.
