Job summary

Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division seeks an engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, executing retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities include design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage control systems, converting legacy PLCs, and developing PLC/HMI applications. Travel up to 50% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience with automation and controls, PLC-based systems, HMIs.
• Knowledge of power systems, switchgear, ATS, and generators.
• Ability to travel 35–50% (remote-based).

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessment and support field performance of projects.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
