The editor will support the Des Moines newsroom, work with multiple teams, and help cover major initiatives such as the Iowa State Fair and elections, while meeting deadlines and upholding audience-focused journalism.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong news judgment and editing skills.
• Excellent copy editing and headline writing abilities.
• Experience planning, curating and packaging content.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and publications simultaneously.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with digital publishing tools and audience-focused journalism.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple newsrooms and teams.
• Experience in local journalism is preferred.
• Experience editing community, agricultural or weekly newspapers is a plus.

Responsibilities
