Job summary

USA TODAY NETWORK seeks a versatile Weeklies and Special Projects Editor to oversee six Iowa weekly newspapers and the Farm Forum. The editor will plan, edit and produce content, ensuring quality across multiple titles while supporting Des Moines newsroom.

Fully remote in the US (excluding AK, HI, WY); Iowa-based candidates welcome. Requires degree in communications or journalism and strong editing, copywriting, planning and deadline management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong news judgment and editing skills.
• Excellent copy editing and headline writing abilities.
• Experience planning, curating and packaging content.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and publications simultaneously.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with digital publishing tools and audience-focused journalism.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple newsrooms and teams.
• Experience in local journalism is preferred.
• Experience editing community, agricultural or weekly newspapers is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan, edit and produce six Iowa weekly newspapers and the Farm Forum.
• Provide editing support within the Des Moines newsroom.
• Assist with major coverage initiatives such as the Iowa State Fair and major elections.
• Oversee quality and performance of these products remotely.
