Job summary

The Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME) leads editorial direction, governance, and peer-review processes to ensure rigorous scholarship for the GME community. This remote role reports to the ACGME board and collaborates with a diverse Editorial Board to advance educational practice and patient care.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or PhD degree required.
• Established leader in GME and education scholarship.
• Demonstrated editorial and peer review experience.
• Deep understanding of GME systems, including accreditation, program leadership, and educational practice.
• On-the-ground experience as a GME leader (e.g., program director, designated institutional official, etc.).
• Ability to travel and present at medical education meetings (e.g., ICRE, ACGME meetings).
• Experience across diverse settings (university/state-federal/community) is beneficial.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Creativity and innovation demonstrated through prior published work.
• Ability to adapt to evolving journal publishing practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain a clear editorial vision aligned with GME needs.
• Prioritize rigorous, credible, relevant content for educators and researchers.
• Ensure the journal addresses emerging challenges in GME and advances scholarship.
• Recruit and sustain a high-quality Editorial Board and peer reviewers.
• Oversee a high-integrity peer-review process and final publication decisions.
• Lead recruitment and guidance of editors and staff.
• Ensure scope aligns with the ACGME mission while maintaining independence.
• Promote ethical publishing standards and COPE/ICMJE guidance.
• Support growth to broaden international reach and impact.
