Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an EAP Specialist to provide telephonic assessment and short-term problem resolution for behavioral health benefits. The role supports guidance to members and coordination of resources, with a schedule of Thu–Sun, 4PM–3AM CT and remote work across the U.S.

Requires a Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field, an active behavioral health license, and 2+ years of clinical experience.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
• Active, unrestricted, independent behavioral health license in the state of residence.
• 2+ years of clinical experience post-master's degree.
• Familiarity with EAP services, intake processes, referral coordination, and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

• Take inbound calls from a queue in a call center environment.
• Assess risk to self or others and screen for substance use and medical co-morbidities.
• Conduct telephonic consultations with individual members.
• Develop an individualized action plan using Solution Focused Consultation or Motivational Interviewing.
• Guide individuals to employer, community, and cross-carrier resources.
• Resolve moderately complex problems and analyze situations.
• Provide explanations and coaching to others on difficult issues.
• Consult with licensed staff or leadership on high-risk situations.
• Serve as the National Point of Contact for non-licensed EAP Specialists.
• Be a resource for less experienced colleagues.
• Work with minimal guidance and seek guidance only on complex tasks.
