Job summary

LiveOnNY is seeking a Donor Coordinator to screen, triage, and refer donor-related calls from a home-based position. You will coordinate tissue referrals, obtain family consent, and document case information with hospital staff and Tissue Banks.

You’ll work with medical examiners and hospitals, ensure timely follow-up, and maintain compliance with established protocols. A health-related bachelor’s or associate degree and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health-related field or an associate’s degree with 1–3 years in grief/crisis settings.
• Sensitivity to grieving families and ability to provide support.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology; proficient in computer usage.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; customer-service oriented.
• Ability to make sound clinical assessments in crucial situations.
• Understanding of organ and tissue donation process.

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming calls and communicates non-donor related messages to appropriate personnel.
• Collects hospital and patient information and pre-screening criteria on all incoming donor-related calls.
• Evaluates donor referrals for suitability and advises hospital staff on next steps.
• Directs organ referral calls to the Case Development Department.
• Maintains consent and approach levels and documents extensive medical/social history.
• Coordinates tissue allocation to Tissue Banks and notifies team leaders of status.
• Performs data entry and maintains referral logs; ensures timely documentation.
