Urban League of Rhode Island is seeking a Director, Research at UL Research Institutes to lead DSRI efforts in AI/digital safety assessments. This remote role focuses on creating methodologies, prototyping tools, and forming partnerships across government, standards bodies, and industry.

You will oversee research programs, define KPIs, manage budgets, and guide a team of researchers and engineers to deliver impactful results that advance safety science and its practical applications.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline with a track record in research project management, test generation, and evaluation.
• Experience managing and mentoring distributed AI/digital research and engineering teams.

Responsabilités

• Lead research activities and develop assessment methodologies and tools for AI/digital systems.
• Build and manage partnerships with government, standards and certification bodies, and AI safety teams.
• Oversee projects, budgets, timelines, and KPI definitions to ensure timely delivery of high-impact research.
• Hire, nurture, and lead researchers and engineers to advance DSRI capabilities.
• Translate DSRI research into industry practice through proposals, collaborations, and dissemination.
