Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking a Director of Claims & Investigations in New York. This role leads the Claims Bureau, directing investigation, data development, settlements, and third‑party administration for the MTA’s liability programs.

Responsibilities include managing staff and budgets, negotiating settlements within fiduciary limits, and coordinating with internal departments, insurers, and external partners. Telework is available one day per week.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with Insurance Law in railroad/transportation.
• Experience managing staff and budgets.
• Strong negotiating and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• New York State Independent Casualty Adjuster’s License required on hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Claims Bureau, including investigations and data development.
• Serve as Third-Party Administrator for all claims under the MTA insurance program.
• Manage litigation staff and external vendors; supervise billing and case activities.
• Approve, authorize, and evaluate settlements within fiduciary limits.
• Lead strategic leadership and stakeholder engagements with insurers and departments.
