Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Director, Global Media Relations to guide media strategy and lead global media activities across markets. The role reports to the VP of Global Communications and works with senior executives to shape messaging, manage inquiries, and coordinate proactive campaigns.

The position is fully remote and based in the United States (New York, NY preferred) with occasional travel to offices or off-site meetings.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in media relations or corporate communications within a global organization.
• Established relationships with journalists covering science, healthcare, technology, or business.
• Experience counseling senior executives on media strategy and crisis response.
• Strong news judgment and ability to translate complex topics for a general audience.
• Experience managing external PR agencies and cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Lead media strategy and support global media activities aligned with Elsevier priorities.
• Collaborate with segment teams on messaging, pitches, and bylined content.
• Coordinate with agencies and partners across markets to achieve media goals.
• Provide counsel to business segments and markets on media strategy and issue/crisis response.
• Support global media activities including inquiries, planning, tracking, and measurement.
