Job summary

Iron Mountain is seeking a Design Manager to lead the delivery of complex data center design scopes, including new builds, fit-outs, expansions, and upgrades. You will direct multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with external consultants and internal partners, and ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions.

Ideal candidates have 5–9 years in data centers or mission-critical environments, strong knowledge of M/E/C/architectural design and codes, and must hold a relevant

Qualifications

• Typically 5–9 years of relevant experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or similar environments.
• Strong working knowledge of multidisciplinary data center design (mechanical, electrical, controls, architectural, civil) and applicable codes/permits.
• Commercial awareness to balance design choices against capital costs; strong negotiation, written, and presentation skills.
• A University degree in Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; U.S. Citizenship; ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design delivery of building systems, major packages, or defined project phases from brief through construction support and commissioning handover.
• Direct external design consultants while coordinating developers, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and internal cross-functional partners in accordance with Iron Mountain standards.
• Establish package-level design plans, deliverables, decision dates, and review gates, continuously assessing risks to provide evidence-based recommendations.
• Provide accurate design reporting, support site due diligence and permitting, ensure adherence to global standards, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
