Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to support complex VA initiatives, including EHR modernization and VistA transition. This fully remote role requires strong problem solving and leadership to translate strategy into actionable plans across dispersed teams.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with federal programs, excellent communication, and the ability to operate in a dynamic environment with evolving client needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or related field.
• 15+ years of work experience; 10+ years may substitute for the degree.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to lead remote teams.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and collaborating with cross-functional groups.
• Experience in operating in an Agile environment is desirable, but not required; VA health IT experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments.
• Coordinate activities across SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations.
• Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource requirements across multiple concurrent activities.
• Identify emerging requirements, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions before they impact delivery.
• Ensure team activities, accomplishments, risks, and emerging work are tracked, documented, and communicated to leadership.
• Support development of executive briefings, status reports, presentations, project plans, and other program deliverables.
• Facilitate cross-functional reporting and meetings, drive action items to closure, and maintain accountability for commitments.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and apply innovative approaches to program execution.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and extension of project leadership, promoting collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
