Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing complex VA initiatives including VistA transition and EHR modernization. This fully remote role within the United States requires strong problem-solving, rapid learning, and collaboration to translate strategic direction into actionable plans and results.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in federal civilian environments, especially VA, and be comfortable operating

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or a related technical discipline.
• 15+ years of work experience required.
• Ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required degree.
• Project team oriented mindset with excellent communication and decision-making skills.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance; agile experience desirable.
• Experience within a large Enterprise Health IT environment, VA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments.
• Coordinate activities across technical SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, and government stakeholders.
• Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource requirements across multiple activities.
• Identify emerging requirements and develop practical solutions to avoid delivery impact.
• Document and communicate team progress, risks, and leadership updates.
• Assist in the development of executive briefings, status reports, and project plans.
• Facilitate cross-functional reporting and drive action items to closure.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency.
