Job summary

UMB Bank seeks a Data Product Manager to lead cross-functional teams in building data products that drive business outcomes. You will collaborate with data engineering, governance, data science, and platform teams to translate requirements into specifications and a strategic roadmap.

The role emphasizes scalable, secure, and compliant data solutions, KPI tracking, and close partnership with business leaders and data owners. Hybrid work in the KC area; US-wide remote considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, Business Administration or equivalent work experience.
• At least 6 years of experience in data governance, product management, business analysis, data engineering, data science or a related field with at least 3 years focused on data products.
• Experience working with multiple functional teams and engaging closely with the business.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks) and data processing frameworks (Hadoop, Spark).
• Experience with BI tools (PowerBI, Tableau) and data analytics including data modeling, ETL processes, and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into detailed data, product specifications, and technical requirements.
• Work closely with data engineering, data science, data governance, and platform teams to develop and launch data products.
• Collaborate with Data Product Owner to define, articulate, and champion the vision, mission, and strategic roadmap for data products.
• Assess complex business challenges, recommending leading practices to enhance and differentiate data products.
• Develop and maintain a product roadmap that outlines the development and release schedule for data products, including backlog management.
• Prioritize features based on customer feedback, market needs, and business goals.
• Collaborate to develop comprehensive documentation for data products, ensuring data mapping, lineage, definitions, and controls are documented.
• Co-develop data product lifecycle from ideation to testing, deployment, and support.
• Understand the integration of data from various sources into data products.
• Ensure products are scalable, reliable, secure, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
• Develop and monitor KPIs to measure product success and impact.
• Analyze product performance data to identify improvements and optimization opportunities.
• Regularly communicate product updates and metrics to stakeholders for alignment and transparency.
• Convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Help establish a culture of trust and accountability within the data product team and with stakeholders.
